and after 1/10th of a mile bear left on 180th to the end of the blacktop road (old logging rd). We are one mile or so beyond the end of the blacktop at 17145

Sam says you never know what's going to come down the blvd. We didn't even have a pull through that this would fit on. Another use for the triangle. Sam had to take a picture and also measure the length. (65 feet) A crew cab truck followed by a 5th wheel followed by a 12 foot storage trailer. We're all glad he's pulling it and not any of us.

Hi All; We're home and e-mail is up and running. Tomorrow is the "Blessing of the Boats"
Father Loc is coming to bless the Kayaks and Canoes at 1:00PM.
After the blessing we'll ride the river from Hersey bridge to our house and repair to the deck for happy hour and a ham dinner.

Date: July 15th-18th. July 15th is annual FHTV golf tournament set for 8:00AM and $19.00. Dinner is at 1:00PM

Our annual "Pig Roast, kayak/Canoe run proceeds to the Cancer Society will be July 17th.
This year there is the added attraction of the Evart Dulcimer Festival July 15th-18th just 12 miles from us

We can accomadate some RVs on site and we have two local County parks within 5 miles

The FHTV Hiking Club was out in force about forty strong. Our "Strollers" did three miles on the flat In Saguaro East, our No-Hurry group went up Pontotoc Ridge for some beautiful views of the city and our Hardy group Took a 5.4 mile jaunt up (1,500 ft rise) Tanque Verde Ridge. We could see the whole of Tucson and the surrounding mountains plus Picacho Peak 60 miles away. Breathtaking.

And the 74 degree temps and sunshine didn't hurt either.

Join us next week for a 4 mile hike and eat adventure. Meet Tuesday 8am in the Fiesta Room.

Chuck Loddy, "Little Chuck", wins award

Saturday night, November 14th, at Little Anthony's Diner, our own Little Chuck won first place in the truck division with his 1973 El Camino. Little Chuck has been attending car shows in the area at least three times a week. One of the car clubs that he belongs to have plans on having a car show here at FHTV after the first of the year. Congratulations Chuck.

It has been a busy two weeks back at the Village. With Fern Mettler's unit gone, we were able to park the trailer right next door making it so much easier to unload it. The outside temps were warm for us, but not troublesome at that point. I started work this last week, spending a lot of time re-learning where things were and how to do things. It's amazing what a difference being away for nine months can make! Today we have been out in the shed sorting thru all of the valuable "stuff" I shipped down from Mama's house and the "important stuff" we have acquired there. With the right state of mind, we threw a lot of junk away, gave a LOT of clothes, blankets, etc. to Ed for the needy, and identified several major sorting projects for this winter. At 10:54 we decided it was time to come inside to cool off -- our atomic clock showed it was 102 degrees in the shade !!! It's going to take some time to reaclimate, but Oh My Gosh!! As always at this time of year we are having a good time welcoming everyone back and collecting hugs. See You Soon, Mike & Vicki

"BLUE" shower stalls Corian Sinks

As construction goes things are behind schedule. They are hoping the 3rd week in October. There are at least 2 crews of tile layers working all day. They finally finished the lighting today so for the first time the different crews don't have to work with the old fixtures hanging from the rafters or lights on an extention cord plugged in at the mini golf. So there is some progress. The new outdoor shower is up but no tile on the deck. We will leave the old outdoor shower up and running as a unisex for awhile longer.

People are really coming back. I guess its the cold and wet weather everywhere but here. George and I went to a US Foods show at the convention center in Phoenix yesterday and the thermometer in the car coming home read 110. The weather person is promising 80 by Friday but they haven't told the truth all summer so I will just see each day when I wake up.

After leaving Washington State on I-90 and driving thru Montana and Wyoming, we stopped at Spearfish, South Dakota, to explore Deadwood (very disappointing) and check two years of progress at the Mammoth Dig and the Crazyhorse Monument (because of the scale of each, it doesn't look like much, but know they are getting lots done). Then we drove across South Dakota and south to Yankton for the night; drove south thru Nebraska on b a a a d roads!! Concrete washboard all the way, about beat ourselves and the rigs apart. A headwind all the way and pounding rain, thunder bumpers into Kansas and on south to Oklahoma. But God was Good! We drove all the way in to Oklahoma City in clear skys and sunshine. The wind even let up, some. We will visit Vicki's family here for several days and then head for Tucson.

Remodel Shower Rooms in the home stretch

The inspectors were out again today to inspect the number of nail in each panel of sheet rock. HA!! Seriously that is what they check on. They will start the tape and texture on Mon and Tue and should be ready for paint Wed or Thur and then the tile. The new outdoor shower bar arrived today by FedEx so that should go in next week. They tell me they will have tilers in both shower rooms and both ends. It should look like an ant hill. We should be able to get some good pictures.

Her birthday is really the 5th so she celebrated all weekend. There were 60 people from the Village in attendence who got into the Fiesta room without JoAnn knowing. Sad news from Betty Wood. Carroll past away saturday morning at the hospital. He was so looking forward to his 90th b-day in March. So Betty said that would be when a celebration of Woody's life would be on his b-day 3/31.

The photo was not this fuzzy on my computer. It will give you a good idea of what the new shower rooms are going to look like. As HGTV says the glass accent wall tiles will give it that POP! The last of the duct should be Friday the sheetrock should be all up for inspection for Tues. and then it's tape and texture and then tile. Due to the City inspection delay they are about a wk behind but John (super) is hoping to make it up.

We have just ordered a number of items to be sold through the Activity Office. As you see we have hats in 3 different colors, we also have visors in the same colors. We have also ordered logoed bags for carrying "STUFF" or to be green and bring your groceries home in. We also have a 5 color variety of t-shirts and sweat shirts. (That for sure are not needed at this time at FHTV.)Like the one shown you also can own one with staff on it. HA!

These pictures are from last week. The glass block wall is up about half way now. The lighting in the two bathrooms is really going to be nice. The sheet rocking you see is looking into the sauna and out the back wall at the three toilets on the men's side. (The toilets aren't there so don't ruin your eyes looking for them. Just the connections on the wall.)

Bob suggests that I also post a picture of the tile, counter tops etc so I will do that tomorrow or the next day. The tile won't start until the middle of Sept.

Thelma Solar is leaving Monday for Mesa and her daughters and then Thurs off for New York. She will return to Showlow and back to FHTV in October. Her new BP medication working well.

Be careful and read your receipts..

OMG! YES! THIS IS TRUE! It happened to me at Wal-Mart (Supercenter
Store #1279, 10411 N Freeway 45, Houston , TX 77037 ) a month ago. I
bought a bunch of stuff, over $150, & I glanced at my receipt as the
cashier was handing me the bags. I saw a cash-back of $40. I told her
I didn't request a cash back & to delete it. She said I'd have to take
the $40 because she couldn't delete it. I told her to call a
supervisor. Supervisor came & said I'd have to take it. I said NO!
Taking the $40 would be a cash advance against my Discover & I wasn't
paying interest on a cash advance!!!!! If they couldn't delete it then
they would have to delete the whole order. So the supervisor had the
cashier delete the whole order & re-scan everything! The second time I
looked at the electronic pad before I signed & a cash-back of $20 popped
up. At that point I told the cashier & she deleted it. The total came
out right. The cashier agreed that the electronic pad must be
defective. Obviously the cashier knew the electronic pad was defective
because she NEVER offered me the $40 at the beginning. Can you imagine
how many people went through before me & at the end of her shift how
much money she pocketed?

This could probably happen at any store where they will give you cash
back so be cautious.

Just to alert everyone. My co worker went to Milford DE Walmart last
week. She had her items rung up by the cashier. The cashier hurried her
along and didn't give her a receipt. She asked the cashier for a receipt
and the cashier was annoyed and gave it to her. My co worker didn't look
at her receipt until later that night. The receipt showed that she asked
for $20 cash back. SHE DID NOT ASK FOR CASH BACK. My co worker called
Walmart who investigated but could not see the cashier pocket the money.
She then called her niece who works for the bank and her niece told her
this. There is a scam going on. The cashier will ask for cash back and
hand it to her friend who is the next person in line. Please, Please,
please check your receipts right away when using debit cards. The store
has the cashier under investigation now. We can only pray that she is
caught very soon.

I am adding to this. My husband and I were in WalMart North Salisbury
and paying with credit card when my husband went to sign the credit card
signer he just happen to notice there was a $20 cash back added. He
told the cashier that he did not ask nor want cash back and she said
this machine has been messing up and she canceled it. We really didn't
think anything of it until we read this email. Please be aware

Last week I mentioned the leak outside the shower rooms and that Jeff & Sam were digging holes to try and locate it. No so far we haven't found it yet. We're not really looking for the line with the leak. We have already determined it is somewhere under the compactor, recycle, or breezeway. The trench you see is for that new line. It goes from the second parking site on the Eastside of the complex to the middle of the Silversmith shop. Well really we (Sam & Jeff) are still looking for pipe. Somewhere there is a T off that broken line that feeds the water around the pool. We may have to go to artificial landscaping around the pool. UGH!!!! Steve is bring in the mail through the breezeway between the poolroom and room C. That is also the way to the laundry. Maybe I should say that is the way we SHOULD go to the mailboxes and the laundry. The contract superviser is spending all day shaking his head from watching our Villagers walk through the caution tape and cones and now the ditch and dirt to get to the mailboxes. Sam says the first one that falls into the ditch we're just going to coverup. So you might want to look for your year round Village friends when you return in the fall. They could be in the trench.

This picture was taken looking toward the swimming pool. The header running lenght wise is for the glass brick that will divide the two rooms. Today the electricians are installing all the plug ins boxes and light boxes. The air conditioner guys where here yesterday installing the platform on the roof for the air conditioner to sit on. Tomorrow is a meeting with the architect about the tile colors for the floor, 40 inch wainscoating, sink counter tops, cabinet counter tops, storage closet doors, shower floors, locker doors, and the wall colors.

Jeff is looking for the connection still for the inlet that sends the water to the irrigation and water fountain by the pool. Sam is off sick, he thinks he has food poisoning. We think we have it isloated to the faucet by the palm tree outside the shuffleboard courts. Tomorrow we saw off the incoming line and see what happens. Never a dull moment at FHTV

Major secondary water leak

Monday started this week off with a wish we didn't work here. We developed a water leak between the shower rooms and Hopi somewhere. Sam & Jeff lined up from the shut off valve in the East parking lot to area where the leak was and where the pipe enters the building. (shower rooms) The hole was dug just behind where you see Sam. Have you guested it yet? We thought it did a turn where you see the hole and headed for the shutoff over in the East parking lot. NO pipe. Jeff & Sam jackhammered all the sawed concrete out to the building. Galvanized pipe with about quarter inch of rust and NO leak. Some where between the two. Under the mens side of the shower room, under the breezeway to the mail boxes, under the recycle, under the compactor? Who wants to dig up all that? You guested the answer to this one. NOT Sam & Jeff. It's now Tuesday after 5PM, everyone is long gone and we will be digging holes tomorrow. More on this situation tomorrow.

Yup, we are short-timers and the weather here isn't helping. It was just two weeks ago we had a historical record-breaking heat wave, and now we are back to the typical foggy, misty and rainy days. Vicki and her sister, Glennie, have most things sorted out at Mom's house and Vicki is out at Mora Campground, Olympic National Park, for the month of August working in the Ranger Station each day. Thank you to everyone who received and returned the background check form. Mike will finish in Maintanence at the camp after Labor Day and we anticipate being on the road by September 13. Our plan is to travel to Oklahoma City to see family there as it has been three years and we want to re-connect, then home to Tucson. It has been a long, hard summer and we look forward to tucking in for the winter. All of the letters and e-mails of condolence, prayers and good thoughts that we have received have truely been appreciated and have meant so much. We really learned what it means to be part of our FHTV Family.

Received an e-mail from B Kautz & L Kautz. They will be coming for 10 days in Oct to get their unit ready for sale. They purchased a new home and sold their bed and breakfast so will no longer be coming to the states. B says they have lot of work with their new permanent home to better winterize it. He is installing a new water system, kind of like our shower project. Be grateful that you don't have to cut holes for pipes through 8" thick stone walls and bury them 40" underground to keep them from freezing!

The beamed opening is the division between the toilet area and the shower area. Where you see the man working is on the women's side by the door going out to the street on Hopi. The wall to his left going down the middle is the wall seperating the men's from the womens where the showers will go back to back.

Showers and Bathrooms

Here is this weeks update on the showers. Concrete was poured today to fill in around the new plumbing and where the stepdown showers were. Tomorrow they will start framing the walls and fir out the adobe brick with 5/8 metal so they will accept duro rock from the floor up 48 inches and sheet rock to the ceiling. ( The 2x4's you see in the picture are still the braces holding up the ceiling and roof where the interior abode walls were taken down.) Then more electrical and plumbing before the sheet rocking which is scheduled for 3 weeks from now. The adobe walls will be tiled up 48 inches and sheet rocked to the ceiling. The meeting between the Constructions Manager, his supervisor, myself, and Mr Hays was very informative with all of us learning something. I people and businesses should have to go through a class in how to read plans. HA!

The heat must be affecting the coffee drinkers as there were only 10 people in attendance on Sunday. They dicussed all of the "local" and "world" problems; baseball diamonds, education, politics, violence, gun rights, etc. They're sure they, whomever they are, will perform all of their recomendations and suggestions. School classes should be held 8am-5pm, the same hours as most parents work, year round. Maybe a few days off for vacation and shopping for the next school year. The change is just to give the parents a break.

Here is a picture taken today. The plumbing is in in the part of the building you are looking at and the end you don't see there are two guys installing the plumbing there. The two by four wall structure you see is just ceiling support to hold the roof up until they install the ceiling beam. When all is done you will only see adobe walls on the outside of the building there will be no exposed brick in the shower rooms. More pictures the middle or the end of next week. Things are moving alone.

I am concerned though with the tempory outdoor unisex shower. All those who have used it really like it. Joyce said she was real leary but Don was taking his showers there so he convinced her to try it. She really enjoyed taking a shower outside. My concern is that everyone is going to like it and want us to keep it. HA!

It's summer and the sun is hot, everywhere, but particularly in Tucson. Claire Rogers has been doing some of her cooking with her home-made solar oven, and solar cooker. So far she has baked granola and cookies in the oven, and bulgar, beans and salmon in the solar cooker. If she gets several comments, she will post construction instructions. She has fun with it, and saves some energy too.

The shower stall has two soap dishes, the dressing room has a shower bench and 9, count them, nine hooks to hang your "DUDS" on there are six plastic foot steps to prevent possibly slipping and hitting the deck.

Hi all, After a month in Maple Grove, MN (a graduation, house warming, baby shower, picnic and non-stop visiting.) I drove over to Manitowoc, WI to board the SS Badger, I had a reservation for June 22.. While I was at the ticket counter a women walked up next to me and stood there. I turned to look and there stood Margaret Guenther, She and two friends, Naomi and June, were also sailing that day. Margaret said Jack and Do Corcoran were going to meet them at the dock. And they did. It was an enjoyable afternoon. Today, I'm in Lansing, spent the afternoon at the State History Museum's genealogy department. What a beautiful building and facilities they have here. Tomorrow I head my covered wagon east again. I'll spend the Fourth of July in Maine. Stay well everybody, wherever you are. Dolores Dewey

New Shower Remodel FINISHED !@*$!

Jesse thought he would have it easy the rest of the summer with no showers to clean. Not only will he have to clean this shower but it took him, Jeff, and Sam to install our "new state of the art, 5* resort shower.
The guys took one of the toilet stalls from the men's shower room and moved it to the outside pool shower. So we now have a unisex shower while the shower room is being remodeled. There is a dressing area with all kinds of hooks, a shower bench and of course a lock on the door. Then there is a shower curtain as you enter the shower stall. Very private for being outside and for those who stay all summer and don't use their showers in their units this is the greatest.
See what those of you are missing that went to your homes away from this home? Also the weather that was 103 yesterday and I'm sure is the same today, just ask the guys installing the shower.

Far Horizon's Big Rapids and the suburbs of Hersey, Kalamazoo, and Mancelona joined the Jordan's and Gregorich's for the 1st annual "Blessing of the Boats" Festival. The gathering was held Friday the 12th on the Muskegon River between Hersey and Paris. The Right Reverend Rob Kotecki did the invocation in the absence of three local priests who were busy elsewhere saving souls. After the ceremony we launched our kayaks and canoes for the two hour ride to Paris Michigan (not France). The hosts were joined by Pattersons, Vickie & Earl, Pattersons, Chuck & Jane, Nash's Gary & Jan, Millers Al & Donna, Samanias Pete & Karen, Markeys Jim & Jellayne, Rob Kotecki & Ione Condit, and Jack Mitchell & Janee Aranoff. The group returned to the Gregorich's for Brats on the grill and the usual cast of things delicious plus music by the "Tres Amigos" around the firepit. P.S. Shania's did not float the river therefore nobody fell in the river.

It's time to think about the "Summer Extravaganza". Mark your calendar for July 23rd - 25th. Thursday the 23rd we tee off at 8:00AM and dine at1:00PM, Friday the 24th is a day of rest and prep for the Saturday 25th Pig Roast and kayak/canoe run for the Cancer Society. We will hold these activities at the usual location of the Jordan and Gregorich Ranch on the river. As in the past you may attend either or both activities. The ice broke up on Pantano Wash today at 1:30pm when the temperature reached 100F for the first time in 2009. It is the sixth earliest on record. I was just outside at 101F and, with a light breeze, not too bad.

Mike has been working out at Mora Campground, Olympic National Park, since mid April and I am here with him now. My sister and I cared for Mama at home until she slipped away peacefully and gently early Easter Morning. We were sleeping in shifts so someone was with her at all times, and now we are trying to catch up on our rest. We had a very nice, informal, celebration of her life last Saturday, April 25. Thank you so much for the many cards, and my family was amazed at the Village card with so many signatures and comments. We love you all.
We've had a good deal of rain, but a lot of sunny days too. This is beautiful country when the sun is shining. I am filling out the forms for a background check so I can work at Mora as a Volunteer in the Ranger Station. Mike expects to work thru Labor Day, then we will head for Oklahoma and Tucson.

Sunday Summer Social

Jules Croft sponsored the first summer season coffee & donuts this last Sunday, April 19, 2009. There were 23 in attendence and for a more homey feeling Social was held in the Cactus Room. We have a sign up sheet up on the activity board for those who want to sponsor a social. There are 28 Sundays and we have 13 of them already filled.

Eldon & Joann Schafer at 630 have sold their hme in Green Valley so they will soon be moving to FHTV.

Pickle Ball Court

Things are really happening at the Pickle Ball Court. We got the ramada up and decided a little more room was needed so block was layed. Mike and Carol Ells had a saguaro that was getting ready to push their awning off the front of their park home and wanted to know if we wanted to have it and move it. We are getting good at moving saguaros but that's because we know the people. HA!

Before we moved it we ask if it was OK with Carol that we put it down at the Pickle Ball Court as she had a horrid accident there and splinted her shoulder. She did agree that it could go their and she and Mike were there for the digging up at their home and the placing of it at the courts by the crane. All agree it looks GREAT!
